We’ve been waiting for some time to find a reason to write about Alt-J and the recent streaming of their quite brilliant debut album has provided such an opportunity. We’d even go so far as to say it’s one of our favourite guitar albums of the year so far. Their name comes from the simple act of hitting alt+J on the keyboard, a lot easier than it used to be to Google it. Thankfully the recent and ever-building success of their music has put an end to that and the release of An Awesome Wave will help still further. There’s so many different influences and sounds oozing out of each song but as a full body of work it really does come together well. We implore you to listen to the whole thing (which we’ve now done four times today), but below are two favourites to wet your tastebuds. An Awesome Wave is released on 28 May and can be streamed in full here.
