Having recently supported Adele on her European tour, Michael Kiwanuka has come a long way from playing the north London pub circuit just a year ago. Whether it’s the 1970s jazzy-soul sounds of new EP Tell Me A Tale, or more folky songs like Home Again, these sharp lyrics and melodies certainly substantiate claims from a growing number of critics that this is talent beyond its years. Most notable however is Kiwanuka’s unique voice, which simultaneously penetrates and soothes listeners’ ears, much the same as his high-profile tour host. For those keen to catch Michael live before he inevitably blows up, Stamp the Wax points you towards his launch show next month. Failing that you will have to wait for the album, which drops this summer.
