When asked to describe his music he replied, "in all honesty, I would say it's an eclectic balance of headphone story telling and dance floor sweat", citing '1997 -Homework and Vegas' as his biggest Electronic influence. Back in February we found his Future-RnB track 'Back to me', and ever since our ears have stayed glued, from a 2-Step/Garage tribute to Whitney Houston to his new bootleg of Lucky Paul's 'Thought We Were Alone' (which we featured on our website back in June) - all of which we urge you to check out.

Although Henry Krinkle stands some 4,000 miles away from what is considered to be the epicenter of UK Bass music, his sound has defied the distance, oozing a Post-Dubstep vibe very reminiscent of early pioneers James Blake and Mount Kimbie. When asked to describe his music he calls it “an eclectic balance of headphone storytelling and dance floor sweat“, citing 1997 -Homework and Vegas as his biggest Electronic influence. Back in February we found his Future-RnB track ‘Back to me‘, and ever since our ears have stayed glued. The 2-Step/Garage tribute to Whitney Houston and the bootleg of Lucky Paul’s ‘Thought We Were Alone‘ (which we featured back in June) are two highlights, which we urge you to check out.

Our sixth mix is a fluorescent voyage through lush beats and arcane frequencies, teeming with post-night-club fervour. When asked what influenced the composition of the mix, Mr Krinkle put it down to “a combination of my friends and the amazing community on Soundcloud. Also, in a more general sense, the whole UK Post-Dubstep/Garage/Bass situation has really been a big part of my life the last couple years“. The mix flows meticulously from start to finish, and we’re not exaggerating when we say every track is an outright banger. Highlights for us have to be Henry’s remix of James Blake’s bedroom-anthem CMYK and Owsey’s remix of Birdy’s Skinny Love. To top it off the mix is sprinkled with snippets of film samples, one from Taxi Driver (Henry Krinkle being an alias for the iconic vigilante-loner Travis Bickle from the cult classic). Future plans for Henry consist of an album of original tracks slated for a summer release, in the mean time he’s put out a free EP of remixes on his Bandcamp that you’ve gotta check out. Enjoy the mix!

At just 21, Gabriel Benn (a.k.a Tuesday Born) and Ollie Williams (a.k.a Ollie Twist) are making some impressive African/Electronic fusion and self-releasing it off their own label, The People’s Ear. Although they’re based in London, much of the creative work goes on in Ghana where the inspiration for their music first came about. Having already sung the praises of Larry Achiampong, we’re well-accustomed to the potential for Ghanaian music to cross genres and it’s good to see The Busy Twist taking it in another direction again. Combining the energy of African music with the influences of the London Bass scene the results range from irresistible dance numbers (1995) to powerful, almost hypnotic tracks with a strong Ghanaian affiliation (LDN Luanda).

Listen below to our favourite track off the debut EP Floor Excitement (wait for that drop at 1.43) and another great new release (also a free download).

Four Tet’s new track Ocarus was aired by Gilles Peterson on Saturday and today sees an official release from the man. It turns out Ocarus is the B-Side for Jupiters, which will be the 15th release on Hebden’s Text label after the album release from One Little Plane.Unsurprisingly it’s a strong effort. A long, mystical introduction then makes way for a real dirty bass, with the intro and vocals then layered ontop as the track progresses. Listen below to Jupiters and a radio rip of Ocarus

Many a-column inch has been written about Amy Winehouse since her sad passing almost a year ago. There’s not really much more we could say which would add to what’s already been said, but we can bring you the work of some talented producers who have re-interpreted Amy’s sound to darn good effect. In no particular order, he are our top five tracks which have remixed and sampled Camden’s Soul darling.

Amy Winehouse – Stronger Than Me (Flatline Remix)

Stronger Than Me was the introduction to Amy’s highly underrated debut album, Frank. This remix is by a Reggae-influenced Bass group who take after our own heart, being based in London, Bristol and Brighton. We liked it so much, we placed it among our favourites of 2011. Oh, and it’s a free download.

Ifan Dafydd – No Good

This sample of You Know I’m No Good was the first track released by Ifan Dafydd. The slow build up, intricate textures, dripping pads and unobtrusive bassline had many thinking this was a James Blake alias, but it turns out they just lived together at university. It might be an imitation but when you can do it this good, who cares.

Knxwledge – Best Friends

Best Friends is an unreleased acoustic track and has been reworked here by one of our favourite Hip-Hop producers. The vocals are wharped but somehow you tell it’s still Amy’s voice (and not just because it made this list). The track features on Knxwledge’s Hexual Sealings EP 1.5, which you can stream and buy on Bandcamp.

Amy Winehouse – Stronger Than Me (Alby Daniels Remix)

The second remix of this track is a recent release by the multi-talented singer/producer Alby Daniels. The glitchy beat keeps the tempo bouncing along, combining well with Amy’s chopped up and warped vocals. This remix is free to download, but also check out Dawn, Alby’s first solo effort where he lays down his own soothing vocals. Definitely a name to keep an eye out for.

Amy Winehouse – Tears Dry On Their Own (Organized Noize x Dungeon Family Remix)

The sparse beat laid down on this remix helps it retain the emotional original but still manages to bring something different. This is one of the oldest tracks in the list and so was featured quite heavily after Amy’s death, but it’s too good to ignore. What’s more, it’s also a Free download.

Robert Luis (a.k.a Nirobi) has been co-running Brighton’s brilliant Tru Thoughts label for over ten years, working with some top artists like Quantic (see our review of their KOKO gig this week), Benji Boko, Nostalgia 77 and Zed Bias. He might have a good eye for talent, but judging by this re-edit we came across recently, he’s also a pretty mean producer. It reworks a short track that Wiley gave away as part of the Zip Files, which brings the piano to the fore with added drum kick. It’s not much like Wiley’s normal stuff but we’re really digging it nonetheless. And as an added bonus, it’s free, so snap that up and see what else Nirobi and Tru Thoughts are offering.

Will Holland a.k.a Quantic, is a man of many guises. The continental sounds which dominate his music make it hard to believe he grew up in rural Worcestershire. His story becomes more convincing when you find out he has been living in Cali, Columbia, since 2007. His most recent album, recorded with long-time collaborator and friend Alice Russell, is a mixture of Soul, Latin, Cajun and Jazz, taking Alice out to Quantic’s Colombia studio to record.

Holland and Russell are now touring the album, having begun in Paris with last month. Tonight’s show was their first UK date of the tour, held at the iconic Camden venue, Koko.

After Holland starting off with an introductory instrumental, Russell strolled casually onto the stage to begin with I’ll Keep My Light In My Window, the latest single from Look Around The Corner LP. Her stage presence was not easily matched, exuding as much confidence as her powerful singing voice would suggest.

Quantic complimented Russell well, showing his musical versatility, picking up electric guitars and acoustic guitars alike. The pair even managed to wield together a brilliant cover of Golden Brown by The Stranglers with Quantic playing the accordion and Russell adding an interesting twist to the vocals.

After coming back for an encore, the pair performed some of their older collaborative works, spanning from projects such as The Quantic Soul Orchestra. Their well known numbers ‘Pushin On’ and their closer ‘End of Road’ were well-received by the crowd as the gig came to an end.

The trouble with Will Holland is that he has far too many side projects. It makes it difficult knowing what you are in for when you go to see him perform. For those expecting a Quantic headline show with Alice Russell supporting the night may have been a little disappointing. Barely performing any of his renowned work from other projects, it seemed like Quantic’s musical finesse was not put enough in the spot light and rather served as a backing for Russell.
