When it comes to Grime, Trim is one of the old faithfuls…
Launching last Friday (27/07/12), The Upfront Project is showcasing a plethora of Electronic artists every Friday at The Lightbox in London over the next 5 weeks. Marrying together the world’s most exciting..
8 beautifully chilled-out gems, from slowed-down soulful House to downtempo Garage to ambient Hip-Hop; from Floating Points, Sonnymoon, Little Dragon and more.
Boddhi Satva’s Invocation has been ten years in the making and it certainly shows. It is a varied collection of accomplished songs, all, impressively, produced from the confines of Satva’s home. There’s a bit of Reggae (Enemies and Jah Sanctuary), House (Who Am I) and RnB (Because I Know) on there, but if pressed to choose, we enjoyed the African sounds the most. Grammy-winning Oumou Sangare makes a show-stopping appearance on Ngari Konon and on Nankomandjan, Mangala Camara’s sporadic vocals alternates between the wobbling base almost as if the two are playing off each other
From what we’ve heard, if you live in L.A. and follow the Hip-Hop beat scene even just a smidge then you will have, at some point, witnessed an Anthony Valadez DJ set. The L.A. based Hip-Hop DJ/producer has residencies at some of the best clubs in and around California, not to mention a regular slot at Santa Monica’s famed KCRW terrestrial radio. In 2009 he released his first full-length EP, Audio / Visual : Sounds Inspired by all Things Visual, which brought an enigmatic fusion of sample-based and live experimental Hip-Hop to our ears, rich in texture and injected with a generous dose of soulful goodness. He’s now teamed up with the amazing label Plug Research to release his second LP Just Visiting, a vibrant collection of sparkling beats and delicate melodies with collaborations from the likes of Mar (of Full Crate and Mar), Anna Wise (of Sonnymoon) and Def Sound. You can stream the whole album at the bottom of this page, and check out our favourite tracks off the album with accompanying [brand new] visuals below.
This year, Adult Swim and Kia have teamed up to release a bunch of exclusive and free tracks as part of their Singles Program. It’s now in its third year and release number six today has particularly caught our eye. It teams up Brainfeeder boss and beatmaker extraordinaire, Flying Lotus, with enigmatic Odd Future MC Earl Sweatshirt.
Utrecht’s first track APC has been getting a lot of love on the net recently…

Shortly after Amsterdam duo Full Crate and Mar released Conversations With Her back in 2009, the Future-Soul dream-team dropped this 43 minute mix of handpicked gems, meticulously pieced together by Full Crate and powdered with Mar’s silky voice throughout. The choice of tracks is genuinely sensational, and it makes for perfect late-night listening. Mar’s ad-lib harmonies throughout adds a touch of personality that you don’t tend to find in mixes, and it also gives us a chance to hear ‘exclusive’ (albeit old) content while we wait for the next full record from the boys. Listen below or download the mix for free right here.
