New Artists

New Artist: Gibson Bull

When we first came across Gibson Bull we were surprised how he could have so few plays. It might have something to do with the low key release of his eponymous debut album over a year ago, but since then he’s kept his head down and written a good batch of songs to record a follow-up EP.

New Artist: Guy Furious

With the recent release of Jacques Greene’s new track with Koreless, we thought we’d bring you a new producer who likes to dabble in RnB samples. Despite still being a Music Tech student at Birmingham City, Guy Furious has already achieved a fair bit. It’s his exploration into Future-Garage on EP Pillow Talk that caught our attention the most.

New Artist: 2morrows Victory

2morrows Victory are a London-based Hip-hop group, united by a love of track cycling, who fuse Soul and Electronic sounds to create some really interesting music. Search their name in Google Images and you’ll find more photos of bikes than them, but aside from the fly mode of transport (who knew Hip-hop and cycling go so effortlessly together?!), they have a lot more going for them.

New Artists: Solko

We’re fairly picky when it comes to our Indie music and don’t tend to be too enamoured by thrashing guitars and screaming vocals. East-Country 6-piece Solko, however, offer a different approach. They have a set-up of your typical rock band but two extra saxophones add a real swing and funk to their music.

New Artist: Chance the Rapper

What better way to mark the beginning of a new year than with some fresh young talent from Chicago that you are bound to hear a lot of in 2012. The 18 year old MC has been cooking up a bit of a storm in the Chi-town area, pairing quick-fire lyrics with breezy flows. His forthcoming project 10day is a concept album based on a 10 day suspension handed down to Chance during his senior year of high school – an idea not too dissimilar to that of other Chicago-born rapper Kanye West and his debut, The College Dropout. Looks like Chance has chosen the right path to greatness…

New Artist: Szjerdene

It’s always great to see musicians doing something different, as is the case with North London singer Szjerdene. She’s been elegantly fusing Soul, RnB and Jazz vocals with Glitch-Hop backdrops; drawing clear parallel’s with the Future-Soul sound that has come out of L.A. in the last few months via OFWGKTA sub-group The Internet. Leila’s Tale has her beautiful tones sprinkled generously over a rework instrumental from Swiss-born producer Dimlite. A match made in heaven, we can’t wait to hear more!

New Artist: Annie Eve

Like the Brit School, London’s Goldsmiths has a nack for producing Stamp The Wax favourites. Following in the footsteps of James Blake, Anthony Joseph and Damon Albarn is a hefty task, but we think a current student has talent worth shouting about.

New Artist: Liz Green

The unique sounds of singer-songwriter Liz Green created a stir after winning Glastonbury Festival’s emerging talent competition all of five years ago, but it has certainly taken her time to perfect her debut album, O Devotion!, released only this month. It’s easy to tarnish Green with the same ‘Folk’ brush that is afforded so many other bands these days, but it would be doing her music a big diservice…
