Premiere: Symptoms Of Love – Nightwatch (Cassette Mix)

When we got our hands of Planet Trip‘s inaugural release from Caravan last year, it was clear the label already had something good going. The Sydney-based imprint – run by Mike Who – explore the far corners of electronic funk, boogie and Balearic, continuing this fashion for their second release from Detroit duo Symptoms Of Love, a new project from Freakish Pleasures’ Ryan Spencer and Sector &-G’s Ben Christensen.

Following their debut on Montreal’s Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest last year, Foam reflects the contrasts of their home city of Detroit; the high-energy late nights and the laid-back afternoons. Two years in the making, the four tracker covers all moods and grooves from streetsoul-inspired funk to bleepy percussive workouts. Our pick ‘Nightwatch (Cassette Mix)’ veers into machine funk territory with bright video game synths and deftly sourced samples layered over crisp percussion and drum rhythms.

Foam will be released on 21st January – but your copy from Planet Trip and Rush Hour
