Premiere: Bjørn Torske – First Movement

One of the forefathers of Norway’s space disco movement, Bjørn Torske’s production are renowned for bending the conventions of dance music into its leftmost quarters. His fifth solo album, and first in seven years, doesn’t have quite as much unpredictable risk-taking as previous efforts but nonetheless keeps to the springy, DJ friendly formula that the many Norwegian contemporaries have honed. Album opener and highlight, ‘First Movement’ takes a jazzier turn; a groove of a different kind that’s heavier on live percussion than kick-drums, ushered along by keys and bird song.

Bjørn Torske’s Byen LP is out now on Smalltown Supersound – buy from Bandcamp.
