Premiere: Rouge Mécanique – Prisma Ltd

Since launching their label arm in 2016, South London’s YAM Records have been selective in their releases, favouring quality over quantity. It’s evidently a winning approach, with their last release, Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin’s Idiom, gaining an incredible reception, with tastemakers citing it as their album of 2017. Now as we settle firmly into this year, YAM return with the second volume in their You And Music compilation series, this time selected by family members Z Lovecraft and Hollick, of Rhythm Section and No Bad Days respectively.

Made up of five tracks, the EP weaves through diverging sounds and influences, from the Kwaito-esque jams of Native Cruise to the hypnotic stylings of Balamii Radio’s Will Lister. Opening up the B-Side, our pick of the bunch comes from French multi-instrumentalist Rouge Mécanique. Over seven minutes, ‘Prisma Ltd’ transmits meditative qualities via harmonic flute notes and guitar overdubs atop psychedelic drum patterns that slowly build as the song progresses.
