Premiere: RANGEr feat. Korus – Bazokonwaba

Not content to stand still, the latest offering from South African electronic trailblazer Alan Abrahams, better known as Portable aka Bodycode, is a soulful, jazz-laden nod to the more indigenous sounds of his youth.

Teaming up with London-based label Waella’s Choice for his debut release, Portable presents RANGEr EP is an ambitious project from the acclaimed producer, singer and video artist whose diverse musical exploits, penchant for collaboration and quest to give old sounds new meaning, resonate on this richly layered EP.

The opening track, ‘Bazokonwaba’, is a testament to the idiosyncratic talent of Abrahams whose homage to his roots is realised by the soaring vocals of a capella group Korus, natives of the Mbekweni township in the Western Cape. The arresting rhythmic ostinato and sunny syncopation makes for a playful and jubilant soulful house affair, that brings energy to a warm-up or floating reprieve at peak time.

Portable presents RANGEr will be out on 26th January – pre-order vinyl and digital from Waella’s Choice. For more from the label, check out Hanna – Bounce EP (WAC001).
