It’s no secret that London is having a jazz renaissance, with trios, collectives and all sorts popping up around the city, bringing their contemporary and widely informed musical-breadth to the classic and catalytic genre. New kids on the block, “spoken-soul” group known as Dylema Collective, draw upon loved neo-soul, jazz, funk and rnb, but also afrobeat and latin influences; with frontwoman Dylema (Do You Let Every Man Adapt) having grown up in Nigeria and percussionist, David, spending several years drumming in South America. Combine that with Dylema’s brilliant and witty feminist prose and you’ll find yourselves a group that are bringing something truly unique to the current Jazz audiosphere. The Dylema Collective recently opened for New Orleans band, Tank and The Bangas at the EFG London Jazz Festival and Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia at The Jazz Cafe. Their first official single drops early next year and today we are premiering a taste of whats to come, Email, recorded as a live session at The King Provider in Brighton, and captured by Samantha Rubenstein.
Catch Dylema Collective this Saturday at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Chelsea, December 23rd.
