Coming from Japan, via Belgium, Stroom’s first offering of 2018 is a small collection of varying, previously unreleased material from Sonoko, a Japanese artist who has lived mostly in relative obscurity. She already shares a history with Belgium, having released a couple of records on the legendary Crammed Discs label in the late 1980’s. Yet she achieved little attention at the time, and instead remained a forgotten gem only to be given a second chance at exposure thanks to Stroom’s Jan Van den Broeke, who has remained an avid fan for thirty years.
Today, we premiere the A-Side of this four track 12′, entitled ‘Aoi Tori (Dai Go Maku)’; a serene, dream-like masterpiece capable of transporting listeners to a dark rainy back alley in urban Kyoto. The song has a mesmerising effect achieved through reverberating synth noises, samples of rain shower and the echo-fading vocal that endures throughout.
Les Anges, Les Bonheurs will be available on 1 January 2018 from Stroom’s Bandcamp.
