In 2015, Jazzy Couscous brought us the exemplary chronology of 90’s Japanese house with the Brawther and Alixkun curated Once Upon A Time In Japan. The latter, based in Tokyo, also heads up the label, overseeing a catalogue that celebrates the varied heritage of Japanese music as well as contemporary dance floor rhythms. For their tenth release, they brave new territory away from the kick drum, reissuing an ambient cut from Japanese jazz legend Kazumi Watanabe. ‘Garuda’ was originally released in 1984 on a private press dedicated to Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki. Repackaged for this 12″, it comes with a remix from local master Kuniyuki, twisting the exotic deepness of the original with traditional drums, synths and pads to consolidate its ethereal dreaminess.
Garuda is out 27th November – buy from Juno.
