Premiere: Ozo – Anambra River

Isle of Jura are a dab hand at unearthing forgotten musical treasures from days gone by. The Adelaide-based label, run by Kevin Griffiths, takes an eclectic approach to its catalogue with previous reissues coming from Chayell, Holy Ghost inc and most recently the interstellar disco grooves of Brian Bennett.

Up next on the reissue agenda is a classic cut from dub, funk and soul group Ozo. We travel back to 1976 for Anambra, a unique spiritual journey featuring a 12” extended mix, edited version and our selection, alternate version and closer ‘Anambra River’. Opening with African & Nyabinghi drum patterns, bright twinkling keys and soft whooshes of wind sweep across the percussion. The track slowly and organically builds momentum supported by a spoken Buddhist Sanskrit mantra and hypnotic ritualistic harmonies akin to the sweet euphonies of Fleet Foxes.

Preorder Anambra over on Isle of Jura’s bandcamp.
