A little over a year ago we premiered the debut release, Phantom from Will Lister, so it’s with great pleasure that we can profile his follow-up, which sees him shifting from the Phonica Records fold to that of fledgling imprint, Joy In Repetition.
The expansive, expressive sound that we encountered first time around remains fully in tact here, albeit with Lister now playing from a broader sonic palette, pitched towards the worlds inhabited by producers like Youandewan at his most inquisitive or perhaps even a less motoric Floating Points. Across the EP, the tempo is self-assured and each track explores the kind of spaces that can make stuffy basement clubs feel more like a Sci-Fi movie sound stages.
Hidden away on that magical B2 spot, ‘Blind Eye’ is no less so. Synths and pianos play around each other with a dreamy ease, notes drifting off into the twilight, while sharp edged percussion sounds underpinning with a hazy, shuffling groove.
Space To Breathe EP is out 29th September on vinyl and digital – buy from Bandcamp.
