Premiere: Ron Blanco & TRP – Live Slow

After 12 years of running Hamburg record shop and label Smallville, earlier this year co-founder Julius Steinhoff launched sub-label Down By The Lake. The first instalment exhibited a collection of lush house cuts from young Berlin-based producer Saile, and now the imprint is gearing up for their second release from friends Ron Blanco and TRP. This marks their first outing together but between them the pair have notched up previous releases on Rhythm Nation, Unknown To The Unknown, Lobster Theremin, Shall Not Fade, and Hotflush.

A drunken night in Berlin led the pair to join forces and the result is an EP chock-full of laid back grooves and dreamy beats. Winding up the release is our pick, title track ‘Live Slow’, a dusky down tempo number that emphasises a mantra each one of us should strive to live by that bit more. A soft exhalation of breath and solid kick welcome distant percussion and lush tranquil pads. Arousing an affinity to the Balearic warmth of Harvey Sutherland’s early productions, ‘Live Slow’ captures the hazy feeling induced by dawn breaking and a dark veil lifting on a city that never sleeps.

Live Slow is a vinyl-only release coming out in October – pre-order your copy.
