For 16 years All City Records have been turning out the best in beats exploits and off-kilter electronic offerings. Showcasing the more experimental side of house and electronica, last year the Dublin-based label and record shop resolved to create a new platform for releases with more of a dancefloor focus. And so Jheri Tracks was born.
The sublabel launched last January with Jheri Tracks Vol.1, an 18-track compilation and vinyl sampler featuring producers both old and new. Since then we’ve had techno, ambient and experimental musings from Fotomachine, Melly and Sias, and now comes the release of their second compilation.
Spread across three 12” and a cassette, Jheri Tracks Vol.2 amasses wonderful brooding electronica and club-oriented house cuts, but there was one track that really captured our attention. The producer in question is All City Records worker Sage aka Lee Kelly, a self-confessed record, synth and drum machine lover, who recently charted an EP on Argot sublabel Tasteful Nudes.
Taken from the third part of Jheri Track’s compilation, ‘Tidy Wires’, employs rolling percussion and a muted bassline to drive the track forward with soulful intent. All the while reflective synths soar and glide over head and a shimmering melodic strain brings light and structure to a track that simply keeps on giving.
Jheri Tracks Vol 2 – III is out now – buy from Bandcamp.
