Premiere: Persian – We Should Shout (Fit Siegel Remix)

Curation is not merely selection, it is creation in itself. For Detroit native Aaron ‘Fit’ Siegel, his curation is that of the finest house and techno Motor City has to offer. Having cut his teeth with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks of Underground Resistance fame, he has since formed his own FIT Sound distribution and imprint, pressing originals from artists like Marcellus Pittman and DJ Sotofett. Siegel also makes his own tracks, releasing his debut 12” on Omar S’ FXHE label in 2012. His selections are fast shaping the sonic profile of his hometown and he’s once again putting his production skills to use with a remix of Persian’s track ‘We Should Shout’, taken from his Wasted Away EP, the inaugural release on Misticism Records.

The original is a call to arms against the greed of corporate capitalism, referencing the 2008 financial crash in an opening sample. Set to a sparse deep house groove, uplifted by Nicola Duncan’s soulful vocal take, Siegel’s remix removes the sample and instead opts for an ambient beginning. Retaining the original bass line though, Siegel adds synth pads underneath chopped samples of Duncan’s vocal and a litany of compressed snare hits, keeping the track ready for club play. The result is even more powerful than the original; by virtue of removing overt political references, Siegel lets the sparse hook and subtle arrangement speak for itself over an unhurried nine-minute runtime, deepening Persian’s mystery and ultimate message.

Wasted Away EP is out 10th July – buy from Juno.
