Premiere: Jordan Rakei – Sorceress (Photay Remix)

Earlier this month we were treated to a brand new track from 25-year-old New Zealand-born, London-based multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/producer Jordan Rakei. ‘Sorceress‘ is the first cut off his debut album, forthcoming  on Ninja Tune, and with huge praises already from Rhythm Section don Bradley Zero we’re all patiently waiting for what is sure to be a highlight of 2017.

In the mean time, New York producer Photay (Astro Nautico, LuckyMe) has been bestowed the honour of the official remix, maintaining the soulful integrity of the original but deftly re-imagining it as a stealthy dancefloor killer. Jordan’s angelic harmonies swim through a breakbeat shuffle and a rumbling 80s-style wet bass for the ultimate groove. As the track breaks down, a xylophone-style chorus rings out alongside what reminds us of a west African highlife-style guitar riff. No matter where you place the sounds, this is guaranteed to light up any dance-floor this summer.

Jordan Rakei’s Sorceress (Photay Remix) is released today via Ninja Tune, which you can cop here.
