Premiere: Chip Wickham – Red Planet (Andrés Remix)

Quick on the heels of his debut album at the beginning of the year, Chip Wickham and Lovemonk present a remix 12″ with Andrés and Carlos Niño. La Sombra was the culmination of a 25 year career from the Manchester born flautist and saxophonist, channeling his own love for greats like Yuseef Lateef and Roland Kirk into experience as a recording artist with The Pharcyde, Nightmares on Wax, Roy Ayers, Badly Drawn Boy and Matthew Halsall.

Andrés’ remix of ‘Red Planet’ is such a natural fit, it’s hard to distinguish it from much of the Detroit producer’s original work. Chip’s trills on the flute tiptoe atop Andrés’ distinctive, shuffling rhythm with the original piano melody is used more sparingly, instead used as one of the key drivers of the track’s momentum alongside the kick.

La Sombra Remixes is out 23rd June – buy from Bandcamp.
