Stamp Mix #88: Hanna

Although Hanna – real name Warren Harris – has been putting out soulful, deep cuts since the late 90s, his prolificacy has not quite matched his longevity. No bad thing, for this steady pace, as well as the overwhelming quality of the productions, has been big factor in him being held in such high regard by those in the know. And while his often-unquantised combination of noodley Rhodes, raw percussion and elegant vocal samples makes it tricky for DJs to show off their love for a Hanna track, they still remain highlight moments in any set looking for a bit of soul.

As he lines up a new EP to inaugurate London imprint Waella’s Choice, Warren has offered up his fist recorded DJ set in – we’re told – over 20 years. In a 2001 interview, he admitted “I don’t really listen to house and electronic music”, so this 45 minute selection offers a rare insight into what music that’s on his radar and providing sources of inspiration.

Hanna’s Bounce EP is out 2nd June – buy the vinyl and digi from the Waella’s Choice platforms.
