Continuing his mission to unite the music of South America and Africa with the dancefloor, Jose Marquez offers up a West African inspired track entitled ‘Mali Blues’.
Written and produced in the heat of Los Angeles, it takes influence from the melting pot of musical styles found throughout West Africa. Incorporating Palm-wine guitar and Jùjú style rhythms, the track evokes the work of legendary musicians Ali Farka Touré and King Sunny Adé. The West African feel continues on the vocals as with the percussion, a balafon begins to fill out the track in the second half, which is quickly followed by an array of acoustic percussion. ‘Mali Blues’ is a brilliant example of the continually evolving genre of Afro-house.
Look out for ‘Mali Blues’ available on Tribe Records soon.
