Premiere: Francis Inferno Orchestra – Oasis (Erotikk Mix)

Superconscious Records have been on a solid run since their inception in 2014. Co-founder, alongside Fantastic Man, Francis Inferno Orchestra is no stranger to the stable, making up a third of their releases alongside some exceptional peers. With the announcement of the Oasis & A Time EP he renews his vows for 2017.

On the ‘Erotikk Mix’ of the title track, Mr. Griffin keeps the classic Lately style bass and lulling pads from the opening mix, puts the break gently to one side and opens up a portal to a mythical afterparty, circa 1991. It’s a throwback but in a very good way, and would be equally at home sharing a side with a Sueño Latino cut from the time.

Light the candles and get those nice headphones out, for a sensual four minutes with rain sticks soaked in reverb, shimmering chimes and carnal groans tickling the back of your neck. It’s a simple arrangement that paces itself just right, substituting the dreamy pads at the halfway line for mallets before they get too sickly sweet. Ethereal strings and digi pipes complete the package and certify ‘Oasis’ as an affectionate after hours jam, and the whole time with relatively few changes to the drum track. FIO is clearly still in fine form, just check the ‘Celestial Body Mix’ or ‘Mating Rituals In The Eastern Suburbs’ on the flip, which calls to mind his excellent work as Bjorn This Way.

Superconscious will be shipping out the 12” to all good stores on January 27th. Pre-order from Juno and keep an eye out for the digi releases on their Bandcamp. Francis Inferno Orchestra joins our Infusions Season 2 this Spring at The Colombian.
