Premiere: Aera – Thai Park

For the last nine years John Talabot‘s curation of Hivern Discs has guided it through the European waters where warmth and cold meet, geographically and musically speaking. Deriving its name from the Spanish for winter – when much of Barcelona’s musical creativity is limited to – the label has also developed a sound based on contrasts: introspective and euphoric; melodic yet ever-so-slightly menacing; aqueous cool matched up with summer warm.

Following a busy 2016 with nine releases, their first of the year continues the above trend by welcoming Ralf Schmidt aka Aera for his four track eponymous EP. Take a first listen to A2 ‘Thai Park’, which combines a humid atmosphere and woozy bassline with shimmering synths, building tension like a rolling dust cloud closing in from the distance.

Aera EP is out 23rd January – pre-order from the Hivern Discs website. Artwork by Xavier Martin.
