Day 14 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of The Steve Reid Foundation.
Like a few others on our 2016 Advent Calendar, Glowing Palms has penned one of our favourite releases of the year, so it’s an added bonus that he was up for donating. While his split EP with Ruf Dug on Ruf Kutz this year grabbed our attention for its oddball charm and irreverent wonkiness, his contribution for the Calendar is a little more straight-edged…by his standards anyway. An edit of an edit that holds a strong personal significance, Glowing Palms has worked his off-kilter charm over Jo Bisso’s original to create an off-kilter disco sing-a-long.
Some words from Glowing Palms about the track: “my mate played Bel Amour at Ruf Dug’s wedding and it reminded me of how much I love that tune and the tune it samples so I kinda became obsessed with figuring out how they made it. So this is me taking my favourite loops from the Bel Amour record and bringing in the hooks from the original track.”
Download Glowing Palms’ edit from our Bandcamp. It’s pay-what-you-like, with all proceeds going to The Steve Reid Foundation, a charity founded by Gilles Peterson that aims to support musicians in dedication to the visionary jazz drummer.
