Hot on the heels of Sun Ra EP (on Church), Mall Grab has taken no time in treating us to a fresh dose of hazy interstellar reveries. Playing host to the young Aussie producer and his vinyl-only release are Hokkaido Dance Club, a Northern imprint collaboratively run by Viers and Don Found. The four-track EP, Let U Kno, is an all-encompassing collation of emotive ambient cuts preserving a solid techno principal.
‘Twin Peaks’ is a hollow and cavernous affair, that’s all punching kick drums and deep gliding chords. After being plunged into a stirring undersea mission that pelts the listener with turbulent muffled beats, in signature Mall Grab style a walloping kick brings the haste. The track consistently recharges its batteries, the momentum supplied by distant bobbing notes and heart monitor bleeps. Although there’s an engulfing feeling that you’re submerged in murky waters, glimmers of synth pull it from the depths, giving light to the production’s brooding aesthetic.
Let U Kno EP is set for an April release. Keep tabs on dates and buy links over at Hokkaido Dance Club.
