10 tracks IMYRMIND puts on when he’s with your girlfriend

IMYRMIND

This time last year, we named IMYRMIND in our Ones To Watch in 2015 list and he has not disappointed. Acclaimed solo records with Money $ex Records and Tartelet this year followed collaborations with Glenn Astro in previous years (for Box Aus Holz, Odd Socks and Outernational) and provided ample demand for a Australian tour earlier in the year. Nestled comfortably in the hotbed of creative activity coming out of Berlin at the minute, the only way is up for IMYRMIND and no doubt his 2016 will be just as exciting as the last.

Before he joins Glenn Astro, Muff Deep & Dimensions Soundsystem for a Money $ex showcase on NYE with Commune, IMYRMIND has put together a playlist of smooth tracks for those romantic moments with your other half (or someone else’s in this case). Adultery is by no means encouraged while listening to this selection, as IMYRMIND explains below:

“Most of those songs have to do with love in some way and they represent all kinds of different approaches to that topic. The title pays tribute to a very prominent approach on physical love in hip hop: your girlfriend getting stolen by a better rapper.”

Shigeo Sekito – ‘The Word II’

I actually discovered Mac Demarco through this. Boss-shit!

General Lee And The Space Army Band – ‘We Did It Baby’ (Pt. 1 & 2)

This one is close to perfect. Me and your Girl

Gianni Safred – ‘Jazz Computer’

I recently discovered this one and fell in love with it instantly. Masterpiece. So rough and funky. If I ever attempt to make some jazz, I want it to sound like this.

Ambiance – ‘Bossa Monife’

You think it can’t get more powerful and then they hit you with the rhodes part. Played this a lot while touring Australia with Glenn. Good Times.

Dom Kennedy – ‘Grind’n’

“Your album came out, damn and we aint even noticed…“ Gotta love Dom

Tony Williams – ‘Lawra’

“I love you more when it’s over…”

Steve Kuhn – ‘The Meaning of Love’

The first time I heard this, I nearly started crying. Steve’s singing is so effortless and simple yet so powerful. “The joy in my heart.. I can’t believe its gone.”

Rob Mehl – ‘House on the Rock’

Smooth…just like me…smooth.

Wanderlea – ‘Lindo’

“You got a nice white dick, that’s what the sistas say”. Ouch! I like the original much better though. Just perfect

Backstein Diezel – ‘I Get Around’

“Aint no need in being greedy, if you wanna see me dial the beeper number baby when you need me“
