Day 14: Gloria Gaynor – Anybody Wanna Party (J. Morrison Edit)

Day 14 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of Help Musicians.

Straight from the Alfresco Disco clan, Bristol-based J. Morrison has a knack for taking classics and twisting them with a little seasoning to great effect. He first came to our attention on the Alfresco Disco VA EP, Maximum Joy, with a rework of a Fela Kuti classic. Here he turns his hand to a piece of Gloria Gaynor goodness from 1978. This edit should have you dancing round the Christmas lunch table hand in hand with your grandparents. J.Morrison explains a little more about the track:

“I’ve been a big fan of the original for years. Love Gloria’s voice on this record. Her lead vocal and the backing is about as good a pairing as I’ve heard on any disco track. The bass line is great and strings are lush too! Haven’t done too much to change it, as the track is beautiful as is. Just a bit of editing and few tweaks to make it more punchy. Plus some additions to make it work better on the dancefloor.”

Download ‘Anybody Wanna Party’ from our Bandcamp. It’s pay-what-you-like, with all donations going to Help Musicians, a charity that supports musicians in times of crisis.
