After another successful 12 months, the team behind Dekmantel ended 2015 with some of this year’s most renowned artists from across the globe. For regulars of Studio Spaces this season, the much-needed soundsystem and air conditioning upgrade was a welcomed addition to compliment the first rate musical curation.
New York sweetheart Anthony Naples kicked off the night with a selection of the finest house, warming up the crowd for dynamic duo Pender Street Steppers who entranced the crowd into a simultaneous sing along of our favourite funk and disco classics. Dekmantel label favorite Palms Trax played the most eclectic set of the night. After beginning with the usual house and disco bangers, the turning point of his set, Photek’s ‘Mine To Give’, served as the most memorable moment of the night with the entire crowd fist pumping in unison.
Closing the event was Motor City Drum Ensemble. His ability to emotionally connect with the crowd through his soulful percussion productions and extensive knowledge of funk orientated world music left the entire crowd chanting for more in a community-like spirit. From the caliber of acts playing, 2016 is looking to be exciting year indeed for Dekmantel. And for The Hydra, the year’s still not finished, with a NYE and NYD still on the way.
Our dancefloor detectives tracked down some of the best that was played throughout the evening.
