Premiere: ishi vu – Plant Your Feet

ishi vu is the latest artist to be platformed by the young but prolific Omena Records. The label’s output has previously ranged from Mella Dee’s rudeboy UK club music to HNNY’s softly spoken debut album, and vu’s EP, Green Is The Colour Of Love, is similarly wide-ranging.

‘Plant Your Feet’ sees the young Swede in in Afrocentric mode, designing a frantically shuffling beat sourced from all sorts of clicks, bells and whistles to build the track around. Three minutes in, a crescendo is reached and the beat is joined by some surprisingly big room synth sweeps. This, teamed with the well-curated vocal samples, moves the song into the sort of territory you could imagine fitting comfortably into a John Talabot or Romare set. ishi vu’s successful amalgamation of the playful percussion and the late night synth work shows a maturity and versatility that suggests Green Is The Color of Love could be the beginning of something big.

Green is the Color of Love EP is out now. Pre-order on vinyl from a host of online retailers.
