Premiere: Tamu Massif – A Fate Much Worse

We’re very much hand-in-glove when it comes to our love for dance and soul influenced music, but realise that sometimes it is possible to have too much of a good thing (only sometimes). So it’s always a pleasure to be charmed by something outside of that usual narrative. Up until the turn of Spring we were unaware of the work of Tamu (aka Dave Dixon) but his lo-fi-edged guitar folk which since then has stirred on the periphery; turned heads with his latest effort ‘A Fate Much Worse’, a beautifully composed piece that grows with every play.

We’re delighted to be able to the give you the first listen of the track marking the second single on his forthcoming ‘Alba EP’ next month. Dixon’s alluring and somber vocals sit wonderfully on top of layered guitar, a steady kick and inter-weaving moog-like synths. Tamu gracefully executes a sublte underlying build which completes a track that at times reminds of Toro y Moi whilst flecks of Gameboy-like sounds add that additional nostalgic touch!
Alba EP is out on the 16th June via Bristol based label Chiverin. Catch Tamu live on the 19th June at the Louisiana in Bristol and at The Waiting Room in London on the 22nd June. Be sure to check out more of his music on Soundcloud here
