The Very Best, the collective made up of the singer Esau Mqamwaya and producer John Hugo of Radioclit, will be dropping a new album this spring. ‘Hear Me’ is believed to be off the forthcoming album and is a little taste of what’s to come. Featuring visuals of M’dala Chikowa Village, Malawi, both the track and video were inspired by the 50th anniversary for Malawi independence from colonial rule, matched with samples of a speech from Joyce Banda, the Malawi president at the time.
Musically, the track takes a different turn to the band’s previous releases, sounding atmospheric and dark, instead of like something you’d readily hear at a carnival. It features some stern keys on a slowed down hip hop beat, and is some of their finest work to date.
