Happyness – Montreal Rock Band Somewhere

Combining a slacker garage, rock sound with soft, lo-fi tracks, South London trio Happyness have been getting their fair share of buzz recently. Despite frequent comparisons to American rockers Yo La Tengo, their British roots shine through in their droll, brilliantly sarcastic lyrics to give an altogether unique sound. It’s shown no better than in the slow, laid back groover ‘Montreal Rock Band Somewhere’ off their self-titled EP, a song about boys who have scalped the Arcade Fire lead singer – “I’m wearing Wynn Butler’s hair / There’s a scalpless singer of a Montreal Rock Band Somewhere”. In a similar vein, ‘Naked Patients‘ is another to check out, from their debut album, Weird Little Birthday.

MRBS is taken from the Happyness EP. Their debut album, Weird Little Birthday, is also out now.
