Top Ten: The Kelly Twins – Summer Tracks

Sean and Dan Kelly are one of the most clinical, needle-wielding DJs and label-running twins in the wild South West. Granted, the competition for identical siblings in Bristol music is slim, but that takes nothing away from the collective and individual talents of the two brothers. As The Kelly Twins they’ve garnered a reputation in Bristol and beyond as supreme DJs and crate-diggers, and have also recently turned their A&R talents to running the Happy Skull imprint. With festival season fully upon us, they’ve give us ten favourite summer tracks for you to have a cool beer in the sun too.

Catch The Kelly Twins at Farm Festival on 2nd August, alongside Hot 8 Brass Band, Romare, Joe and our friends Shapes. They’ve also done an ace mix for the festival, which you can listen to below.

1.  Lone –  Lens Flare Lagoon

Early material from Lone. The whole album is all woozy like an old cassette tape that has warped in the blistering sun.

2.  Fatima – Warm Eyes

Fatima on the vocal, Dam Funk on the beat. A match made in heaven.

3.  Sade – I Couldn’t Love You More

There is something about Sade’s tone that makes me melt like an ice cream.

4. Aquarian Dream – You’re A Star

Nothing says summer more than jazz funk. This has been a staple in our sets for some time and always brings the sunshine vibe.

5.  Plantlife – When She Smiles She Lights The Sky (4hero Mix)

Fond memories of listening to this on the way to Weston-Super-Mare for the first time. Not so fond memories of getting there and realising there was no sea, just mud.

6:  Los hermanos – Quetzal

As the name suggests, much like the quetzal, this tune soars. This track has a real warm and intoxicating quality, and manages to capture a sense of the sun’s mystery and power.

7:  Style council – Long, Hot Summer

A lazy summer’s day classic by. On a boat, tipsy, floating down a stream.  The sun’s beating down on my  face and the mod father’s crooning lazily into my ear. The perfect tune to listen to while sat in a sunny park nursing a hangover.

8:  Snoop Dogg – Gangsta Luv (Mayer Hawthorne G-Mix)

Snoop Dogg’s original with an added touch of blue-eyed soul courtesy of Stone Throw’s Mayer Hawthorne. Reminds me of the time I was cruising down Sunset Boulevard in a Cadillac. Of course that never happened.

9:  Common – The Light

Blissed out, boom-bap perfection.

10:  Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness

Grab yourself a pina colada.
