It’s Just (House of Dupree) really highlights Vynehall’s ability to take samples and work them into his playful version of house music. Using excerpts from the legendary 1990 film Paris is Burning, the track plunges straight into its main theme: a muffled but weighty bassline, a continued vocal and some great syncopated percussion. Slowly brought in is a brilliantly celestial and summery melody, almost reminiscent of a less childish MGMT from back-in-the-day. Towards the end, our ears are treated to a great string finale and a nice analogue throw-back, with a cassette being turned round in the tape player. All-in-all, it just seems to be another robust string to this Brighton resident’s bow, whose latest mini-album is definitely worth a look-in if you haven’t been loving it since the day it came out.
Music For The Uninvited is out now on 3024.
